Do I get charged for comments that get removed?

1. Comments Removed by Automoderation

  • You are NOT charged if your comment is instantly removed by the subreddit’s automod (status: “Automod Removed”).
  • Why? Automod removals usually happen right after posting, often because of a banned word or a link in your comment. Since your comment never actually appears live on Reddit, we don’t charge for these.

What to do:

  • Re-submit your comment to remove any links or potentially restricted words.
  • Try reposting with a different phrasing or without the problematic content.
  • Always double-check the subreddit’s rules but there's no way to know for sure what triggered it.

2. All Other Comment Statuses

  • If your comment shows as “Published” in CrowdReply, it means it was successfully posted to Reddit and you have been charged for it.
  • If it was Published and removed within 72 hours of checking, **you'll be eligible for a 75% refund. ** Learn more about our refund policy here.

There are two main ways a published comment can be removed after being live on Reddit:

A. Reddit’s Spam Filters
  • Your comment may get flagged and removed by Reddit’s automated spam system, sometimes hours or even days after posting.

Common reasons:

  • Too many upvotes too quickly, especially on older threads . (Most common reason)
  • Posting the same domain repeatedly (e.g., more than 5 times in 24 hours). Reddit's spam filters triggers this and starts removing comments.
  • If the same domain is used too excessively in a short period of time, it can also result in your domain getting banned across Reddit.
  • Using spammy or AI-generated content.

Best practices:

  • Read this post on how to safely use upvotes in a drip-feed manner.
  • All comments should be hand-written and provide some value while subtly promoting your brand.
  • Space out your comments in 24 hours (schedule the comments) and don't do more than 5 comments with the same domain. Use a mix of just brand mentions and domain link in your comments.
B. Manual Moderator Removal
  • Subreddit moderators can remove any comment for breaking their rules, for appearing spammy, AI-generated, or if reported by users.
  • Tip: Write natural, casual and helpful comments.
